Happy Birthday Baby

Three years ago, your mommy was HUGE... carrying you like a giant basketball in your favorite place right under her lungs.

We were headed to the hospital... two hours after my water had broken
and you decided you wanted to make an early entrance.
The passenger seat driver instructed Mr. Daddy to detour to McDonald's.
And let me tell you, you don't mess with a laboring woman when she says she wants a fruit parfait before the hospital won't let her.
You were easy on your mommy and came quickly... too quickly for the doctor.

I was amazed at how teeny tiny you were.

Where has the time gone?
While I miss that tiny little guy,
I've seen you grow into a fun-loving and sensitive boy.
You were the answer to a very personal prayer.
That God would bless me with a child. And He has done that and more.
He has blessed you with a family who loves you to the moon and back.

It is not lost on me, that such a great gift comes with a great responsibility too.
More than keeping you safe.
More than keeping you happy.
More than teaching you enough to be independent.
As we say our prayers each night, you squint your eyes and peek through. Holding my hand and nodding at all the right parts (especially when being thankful for Lightning McQueen and Cheetos), and end with an emphatic "AMEN!"
These are my hopes and prayers for you Bugsy:
That you would never cease to be amazed at the incredible things
God has placed around you.
That you would always think your dad is the funniest guy on the planet.
Cuz he is.

That you would be healthy.
That you would be healed.
That you would have wonderful friends who will listen.
That you will have really good hair days.
(Sorry about that combover you were born with).
That you wouldn't be afraid of a little dirt - especially when it comes to fun.
That you would continue loving to help with the laundry and mowing the yard.

That you would figure out how to help clean up your messes.
Some lucky lady will thank me.
That you would keep being able to fall asleep anywhere.
That you would never lose your sweet generosity.
That you would love to read and learn.
That you would play well with others.
That you would go easy on us in 13 more years.
That you would learn to share.
That you would enjoy your gift of music.
That you would continue to have a sense of adventure.
That you would always want to be like your dad.
That you won't wait for someone to tell you how to feel,
but will continue to wake up every morning HAPPY, simply because you can be.
And you won't be afraid to show it.
That though it wears me out to chase you all day,
that you will continue to fully live and enjoy every moment that you breathe.
That you will have many more birthdays
(and almost third)

Son, I pray that a little girl is growing up right now who will someday fall in love with those beautiful baby blues.
I pray that you will allow the One who loves you most to guide your steps. That you will find what you are meant to do, and that you will do it with all your heart.
I pray for JOY in your heart, and peace in your mind.
And it sure wouldn't hurt my feelings if you decided to play baseball instead of football.
And I have to pray for myself too... how on earth do you discipline a child who looks at you like that last picture? I tell you, those eyes just slay me.
I am so proud of the sweet little guy you are, and can't wait to see what the next year brings. Happiest Birthday Itty Bit.

Ok, Good thing I can type and not speak about this post...I have a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. What a blessed little boy to have a family that loves him so much. He is precious Rachel and that post was just beautiful. Stunt Man's is coming up on Sunday. How will I compare to this? Maybe I will just borrow it for Stunt Man...it fits. :) I would totally prefer baseball over football too:)
Loved all the pictures. Just beautiful!

Great post, Rachel! It's like a poem to your son. Here's a thought: have it bound into a book and save it for him. It's THAT GOOD! (Kodakeasysharegallery can make things like that into little books. I'm sure other companies can, too.)
Happy Birthday Itty Bit!

Happy 3rd Birthday Itty Bit!

You have got to have the best Mommy and Daddy a kid could ask for. They wanted and prayed for you for so very long. They love you so very much and are so very glad that you've become such a big and strong boy in your first 3 years.

Make sure you hug your Mommy extra tight tonight because I'm sure she's been crying birthday tears of joy all day today since you're getting to be such a little man!

(Plus the fact that tomorrow is HER birthday!)

You can thank me (flog me, yell at me or whatever ;-) ) later, Rachel!

Thanks for the pictorial walk down memory lane. Loved it!

This was such a sweet post and tribute to your little guy. Yes, those beautiful eyes would make it so hard to discipline him! ;) Hope he had a wonderful birthday, and you two are so blessed. :) Love the preggo picture, too...a nice round basketball for sure!

Happy Birthday to a big 3-year old!

Rachel, you were absolutely adorable pregnant! You really do look like you just tucked a big basketball (or is that a watermelon?) under your shirt. :-) You look great!

What a sweet post.. someday, when Itty Bit is no longer Itty at ALL (except in your heart... he'll ALWAYS be your Itty Bit, even when he's 6 feet tall), someday, he'll read this and fall in love with his mom all over again. You're doing such a great job with him, and he's gonna be a good, fine man (and I'm with you on the driving, and the girl.. and all of the rest of it, too!) Happy B'day to a handsome young man... and many, many more!
