Thank You Very Much - Grandma Edition

Whew.  It’s Thursday and one day closer to the weekend (anyone else need another one of those?).  It’s also free therapy time, courtesy of Kmama’s Thank You Very Much!  Head on over.  Ahem… after you check out my gratefulness to a certain family member – it might sound rather familiar if you’ve got one too?

 The Daily Dribbles

Where to start? Remember last week's TYVM post where my mother was caught giving Itty Bit a LOLLIPOP right before bedtime... then letting him climb up a tipsy stepstool?

Oh no, that was definitely not the end of her special “Grandma Rules”, Thank You Very Much.

Howsabout loading him up with mega sugar before sending him home?  Thank You Very Much.

Better yet, encourage him, and ALL the grandkids to stick their fingers in frosting any chance they get, Thank You Very Much.

Then give him a chocolate milk bottle for dessert, Thank You Very Much.

Still not enough?  Let’s hop him up on chocolate cupcakes with whipped cream, Thank You Very Much.

Then to make up for all the heartburn I gave her… she breaks out the ultimate weapon… Thank You Very Much.

This is all a terrible affront to all the parenting values she instilled in me (with a childhood devoid of sugar).  Let’s see what other havoc she can wreak?

Oh my!  She’d never let her grandchildren ride a vehicle without proper safety restraints, Thank You Very Much!

Nor teach him to be insanely noisy, Thank You Very Much.

Nor get him a set of DRUMS for his birthday (Oy vey!) Thank You Very Much.

Most certainly, she should not provide said child with a WHOOPIE CUSHION, Thank You Very Much!

(Seriously Mom… what did I ever do to you?)

And of course, the she breaks the most important Grandparent Rule of all time… never look young enough to be your grandchild’s parent, Thank You Very Much.

Ok, the pic of Itty Bit with the whoopie cushion is THE BEST! And Holy Cow! Is she trying to get some brownie points with those kids or what? Was all that sugar in one night? Lucky lucky kids!

"Santa" gave both of the boys whoopie cushions this Christmas - they loved them! But as you know per my True Story Tuesday post farts are one of the main topics of conversation over here, lol!

lsnellings said...

okay, that is hilarious! And I thought my mom was bad with the spoiling! And I am sure you have heard this all life, but you look just like your mom!

I was thinking the same thing about looking so young! Hahaha!! Love the whoopee cushion pic - so cute!

My mom is totally guilty of the whip cream in the mouth thing and she's always slipping them candy or gum and telling them to put it in their pockets for later (which is in 5 minutes when you're 4). I've decided to just give up and let her have her fun. I had to put my foot down on the drums, though. She just went out and bought him some drumsticks that sound like drums, though. I can't win!

Foursons said...

Oh, I can't wait to be a grandmother! Well, I mean I can wait. Nate and Josh certainly do not need to be in any kind of a hurry. But gosh, it looks like it is so much better to be a grandparent then it is to be a parent. You get to do all the fun stuff with the kids that you can't do as a parent because CPS would show up at your door.

OH...the drum set...I winced with pain for you when I saw that picture!

I have to say, that picture of Itty Bit with the whoopie cushion is priceless!

Kmama said...

OMG, hilarious. I love how you have photographic proof of all this!! My mom lets my boys do whatever the heck they want. One time when I asked her if she would have let us do that, she replied, "Nope. But they are my grand babies." Ugh.

Thanks for linking up!

What an awesome Grandma!! I hope I am that fun (when the time comes that is) ;)

so so funny! i just know my mom is going to be the exact same way!!!

Don't you realize that grandparents have the right to inflict this on us! It is our karma for all of the irritation, frustration and aggrivation we caused them over the years! It is so sweet that sheis so involved! I miss my mom. :o(

Emily said...

Wow...I think she's wins Grandmother of the year! Load Itty-Bit up on sugar and sent him over to her house to celebrate! :)

Pam said...

Msut be a really well like Granny by the kids! Love it, and I understand it...been there, done that...and now I am the Grandma!

GunDiva said...

Um...sweetie? Aren't you deaf? Exactly how loud do the toys have to be to annoy you? Just wonderin'. I mean, if you cook by neighbor notification...

My grandmother used to give my kids Coke in a bottle, so be thankful that chocolate milk was the worst she had :)

My mom does the same thing... sugar 'em up and send 'em home. She's given them whoopie cushions too, even one with a remote control.

Those pics and comments are too funny! Your mom looks SO young!!! Makes me miss my mom...hoping I can be a grandma for future grandchildren someday because all that looks REALLY fun!!!!!

Will she be MY Grandma too?? Pretty please? :D HAHAHA

I totally HEART her!

And coming from someone where ALL grandparents are pretty much nonexistant for my kids....totally savor it. Pray for their health and safety, and thank God for their loving presence. I so wish my kids had that too. :(

Your post made me all teary. LOL I love that he is surrounded by such amazing people! (Except your evil sister who DARED to move away! A pox on her house! HAHAHAHA)

And that is what I look forward to when I am grandma! My mom is the same way spoils my girls to no end and she too looks young enough to be mom (and I think she secretly loves it). Of course when I was a teenager people would always ask if we were sisters and it used to make me so mad...Now I just hope I get those genes! ;)

what a fabulous gran

OK, first of all ~ how old IS your mom because from the looks of those pictures it's only been about 12 minutes since her 34th birthday!

There is that unwritten grandparent law that says they get to do just whatever the heck they want with those grandangels because they had to be mean ol'parents to us. I can't wait for the day I become one ~ I've even picked out my name: Honey!

{Kimber} said...

she TOTALLY doesn't look old enough to be a grandma!!

she seems pretty awesome to me!! heck I WANT TO GO STAY WITH HER!! :)

Blaze always wants to go to my Mom at church becasue he knows she puts him down and lets him do whatever he wants and then I have to go chase him lol. I bought him a whoopie cushion though. He loved it. Your mom rocks as a grandma but I know what it is like to get a kid back all high on sugar and candy and sweet tea with no nap. Yeah that is my mil's doing every time he goes. Oh well what can you

Gotta love grandparents! Those pics are priceless!
My mom spoils my kids rotten and lets them eat things that I was never allowed to as a child.

She really DOES look young! Must be the drop in estrogen that replaces the normalcy of motherhood with the spoilin-overindulgency of grandparenthood...I guess we'll get there, too...

Your mom sounds just like my mom. Especially all that sugar. My mom things sugar is a food group. LOL How did we survive? :)

LOVE it! Perhaps this is payback for the time you almost killed her by treating her to dinner after she gave blood.

Oh, how can you look at Itty Bit's face and deny him anything? Although these pics are incriminating now, they will certainly be cherished later.

Hi, I saw your comment on Trish's blog about c-sections.
I had three c-sections, at ages 37, 40, and 42; with unusual quick and painless recoveries.
I understand her interest and desire to have a vaginal birth and if possible, she should. But if not...
I wrote a post to encourage women who have had c-sections. If you're interested in reading it and all the interesting comments left by women who have all kinds of birth experiences, it's at:

Love your blog name - your son is adorable!

Drums? Oh, that was cold. So very cold. Perhaps they need to stay at Grandma's house? And the pic of Itty Bit with the whoopie cushion is just PRICELESS.... his expression is just exactly what you'd expect from a boy with a noise-making device! Grandma is quite the stinker, isn't she? Just make sure that she realizes that the dentist bills are on her....

Sharon said...

a whoopie cushion? Grammy!

(and I agree, she looks amazing. Good genes are nice, huh?)

Stacy said...

Your mom does look young. Good for her! Yeah, whenever the kids spend unsupervised time with the family, I know they will have copious amounts of sugar. said...

oh my gosh!!!!

I think she is just about to lose her grandma license!

Whoa Nelly! All of those infractions in one day! Whew!!!

Dyann said...

Looks like she's taking her Grandma role pretty seriously. This is important stuff!

Give her a hug for me.
