The Spoon

Y’all had me laughing to tears with your comments on Mr. Daddy’s TST post yesterday!

It reminded me that when my little sis moved out, my mother found several of these hidden around the house:

red spoon

This, my friends, was the infamous “Red Spoon”.

We knew we were really in trouble if we were ordered to bring Mom this lovely utensil.

Butt truly, my sister’s greatest defense against corporal punishment was not finding good hiding places for these instruments of discipline, but rather in figuring out how to make Mom laugh.

Trust me, my mother had spaghetti for arms when my sister started making faces and doing impersonations.  Totally unfair… I mean, who couldn’t keep a straight face (and a straight arm) at this?

Bottom line kids, crack your parents up to save your rear end :)

And I am still madly giggling that y’all have such funny stories to share.  Thanks!

Anyone else have successful strategies from days gone behind?

She looks like she is trying to pick her nose with her tongue. Hahaha. I'm going to have to go back and read all your comments now.

The only one I can think of is not mine, but rather my dad's. At age 16, he did something to get my grandma so mad she decided to spank him. All 6'1" of him. And she is 5' even in heels. So she grabbed his shirt and the spoon, tried to whack away, but couldn't because he tried to run away - in a circle because she still had a hold of his shirt. After a few minutes of ring around the mom, she was laughing so hard she gave up.

That is so funny. It is funny how you lose all your strength when you are cracking up.

I remember one time when Josiah was little and had grabbed the wooden spoon and run out of the house with it. I was standing in the doorway laughing at him and Erica, 13 years older, told me I was NEVER going to be able to get any control over that child and he was going to be spoiled rotten! He's turned out fine! I think it must be good for kids to know they can make their parents laugh!

That my friend is why my mom would say "wait until your Dad gets home". She couldn't handle the funniness that was my brother. She made many of exits covering her mouth...but we knew she was laughing.

When I warned one of my little guys recently that he was approaching a spanking-worth offense, he notified me that he'd like me to "use" his hands rather than his butt for spanking. I thought it was such a funny way of putting it that I couldn't do it. Oh well!

haha! My Mom used wooden spoons and I think once or twice a hair brush! But NEVER on me. I was a perfect angel who never got in trouble. Just kiddin'! I just never got caught!

Hubby likes to tell the story about when his brother was young and got in trouble while they were away from home. His bro knew he was in for it as soon as they got home. So he went to his room and when he was called out, he had on like 10 pairs of underwear and five pairs of sweat pants. Everyone laughed.

I have a feeling that the two of you were quite the pair growing up! Too funny! I guess that is what your parents get for giving you the gift of humor! ;0)
