We’ve had a few soccer games in which I’ve been the mom standing at the sidelines yelling,
Kick the ball
Don’t chase the kids
Kick the ball
Don’t chase the kids
My son is obviously a good listener.
And doesn’t everyone throw some dance moves into their soccer skillset?
This shot cracked me up because it was quickly turning into a game of catch.
Let’s just say that maybe Itty Bit isn’t quite cut out for goalie.
And apparently I am really good at taking pictures of kids falling down. This poor sweet girl gets it every time.
See? Even in Game #2 when Itty Bit got to team up with her… first they got their goals mixed up:
And then yep… she took a major bruising :(
Then it was Itty Bit’s turn.
But this kid took the cake.
Wait… cake? Did somebody say cake???
Oh sorry… Yes, I get distracted easily ;)
So the kid who takes the CAKE?
Everytime he fell? He just laid there
and laid there
and played dead.
Yes, we were howling.
~
Oh no… back to goalie duty:
It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t interfere with that darn “chasing kids” thing…
Umm, yes. That is #3, our goalie, who ran out to chase the kids. Head/Palm.
And again. *sigh*
And then? The game ending injury for this kiddo. Go ahead, wince with his momma.
Oh yeah, he got pummeled by the kid in blue – took a hard knee to the head and ran off the field crying.
And the irony? As he was running off the field, the ball landed in front of him and he accidentally kicked it.
And that, my friends, was the first time he’d touched the ball in the entire game.
Depsite the crazy non-rule-following going on, he actually was having a blast until the owie. He was totally confused why the game would include the possibility of getting hurt.
Want to know what excites me most about this picture?
Heck yeah… it’s the BASEBALL diamond behind it :)

I miss the kids playing soccer at that age. They're so cute.
Haha- oh yeah girl, go for baseball in the spring! :D
Poor Itty Bit, I'm so sorry he got a knee to the head. I was so concerned it was going to be to his kidney and actually breathed a sigh of relief when it was (only) his head.
The face-plant by the girl in the pink shorts looks horrendous. Poor thing.
How much longer is your season? Ours is over on the 30th of this month. Is it bad that I'm looking forward to it? Both boys are having great seasons but it just makes for such a busy schedule.
Baseball is a bit slower than soccer. But all fun! Cute pictures. I am a huge soccer mom so this post was a sweet reminder for me. LOL Too cute.
HA!! Mine is the one that played dead or just stood there....soccer is so much fun at that age!!!
This reminds me of when my sons were young and they played every sport. I miss those days.
Oh that stinks that he got hurt :-( I would pay a lot of money to see on of his games! I think it would complete me... make me never feel sad again! It would be fantastic! Kid sports are so my favorite! I can't WAIT for Lula Mae to be able to play!!!!
I am with Julie, I was terrified he got him in the back. Thank God he is ok. Can I just say I love the dance moves thrown in lol. He has style man. You gotta give the kid that!
I absolutely LOVE the kid that plays dead. How flippin' funny is that? Little kids are so cute. I can't stand the cuteness : ) I am sure you are having the best time watching them. They are so adorable!
Awe, bless that poor little girl's heart. Poor thing. Yep, that's what preschool soccer is all about. Jack used to tackle the other kids. Yep. Tackle. Finally the coach just had to start sidelining him. Since it was my kid, I was mortified, but if it had been someone elses I would have been cracking up like crazy...his tackles would come out of nowhere!
So cute!! On our team Tommy is the one that is always falling down!! ALWAYS!! I love watching them play - its so fun to see them all just chase that ball, and each other. How different will it be when they actually start to play the game!!
Haha Love your "cake" interruption. Making me hungry. That poor girl, always getting caught on camera falling down. And love Itty Bit's accidental ball kick. Hilarious!
Okay, I have been back and reread this post a half dozen times today. I.Love.It. (probably because it has lots of pictures and mostly small words)
Thanks, Bill
Those precious pictures qualify for the October edition of Baby Sports Illustrated!
Oh my that is too much! It must be so hard for them to focus. I may not be able to watch once Nate starts playing. It might drive the control freak in me nuts! lol
What a fun set of photos of a really fun Itty-bit activity.
He looks like he has a ton of fun in soccer!!!
And yes, you are an extraordinarily good photographer of children falling...a God given talent!
I love all these scocer pictures!!
LOL! Great captures. Watching little kids play sports is highly entertaining!
Oh, poor Itty Bit! I would have howled, too, if I had gotten a knee to the head.
LOL! Looking at your pics makes me remember the chaos in Josh's games at that age --the not knowing which direction to go, the bumping and falling all over each other, the watching the ball just roll past into the goal (when being a goalie)... too cute!! A year from now, at the soccer games, you'll be shaking your head and marveling at how far these kids have come from the funny running around and antics that they do right now. :)
Ok, your kid cracks me up! He would be a riot on the diamond! He NEEDS baseball in the spring!
OH NO, to all of the "fallers" on the team! LOL That little girl's faceplant looks painful! Our boys are playing baseball AND soccer right now. It is crazy busy!
HAHAHAHA! That itty bit cracks me up! I love the soccer shots. So glad you got him playing so we can be entertained!! :)
Nice to see we had similar experiences with soccer. I knew it was going to be like herding cats, so I just sat there and laughed and took pictures. What else can you do?? I did tell them to TRY for the sake of all that is holy! They didn't listen to me either. ;)
Oh, how I can relate. Sweet Pea hardly touches the ball... but she runs around with a BIG smile. Wish I could enjoy the games with you on the side lines. I do usually laugh until I cry. Love your pictures!
Mrs. NB
love love love this blog and all the pics. My daughter started playing at 6 and it was just hysterical watching them "play". I love the pic you posted when he was going to catch the ball with his hands. And the faceplant pic, sorry, not REALLY funny, but kinda. And only because she was ok :)
Oh! The nose dives are killing me!!
I think herding cats is the perfect name for this post!
