Letters of Intent - Bespectacled

Dear Pediatrician,

When Momma says there’s something wrong with her kiddo’s eyes,

there’s something wrong with her kiddo’s eyes.

After your attempts to convince me that I was an over-vigilant parent, I pulled rank and scheduled an eye doc appointment.

(Y’all know how THAT went, *sigh*)

Turns out you were pretty darn wrong.

And I’m sad to have been pretty darn right.

The Parenting By Instinct Momma Bear

Dear Readers,

I know I promised you pictures of our little bespectacled guy a month ago.

Except, he got really upset about the glasses.

“Everyone will laugh at me!  Everyone will make fun of me!”

“No they won’t honey, no they won’t”

And I nearly cried when the first kid he encountered pointed at him and laughed at how big his eyes looked.

And then the second kid… pulled his glasses off and smashed them into his face.

It about broke my heart.

(Nevermind, it did)

A Sad Momma

Dear Itty Bit,

If glasses help you see things a bit better… how could I complain?

And see, you can still do fun things, even with your cool new glasses!

Like ride your bike!

What are you guys all looking at?

Waitaminute… BOYS!

Oh Bubba.  Ohhhh Bubba

The Momma Whose Washing Machine Isn’t Fond of Puddles

p.s.  Bubba demonstrates the end result.  It cries out for a punchline that I just aren’t funny enough to come up with.

It breaks my heart how cruel kids can be. For the record, I think he's cute in his glasses!

Buckeroomama said...

I knew he would look good in glasses... and he does! He would look good in any kind of glasses!

Kids can be so cruel and mean and it's just heartbreaking. Thing is, sometimes they don't even know how cruel or mean they are.

Tamar SB said...

He looks so handsome in those glasses! But I understand what you mean, my mom fought my doctors tooth and nail about there being issues with my hearing and no one listened until she finally got a specialist to diagnos me! Then I was so scared what kids would say about me. Tell your little man to stay strong!

ps you can read about my issues here:

Kids are mean!! I think he looks adorable in those glasses! I hope he gets more and more used to them :)

He looks so cute. I hate that kids can be so mean!

Kmama said...

Aww, he's such a handsome dude in his glasses!! I'm sorry other kids are so mean.

Mrs. Mom said...

Kids are shits. But then they grow up- and they'll either be crappy adults, or outstanding people. I'm betting Itty Bit is going to be the latter ;)

I can empathize. I've had glasses since I was 4. I'm now a *lot* older than that. Being picked on sucked moose tittles, but it taught me a lot too. Squeeze that sweet wild man of yours from me!! And then have him squeeze you from me too!!!!

Catalina said...

I know all too well, a pain a mother feels when she sees her child being wrongfully abused in any way. I hope this won't break his spirit and he comes out stronger at the end. :)
Kids can be cruel, but also surprisingly strong.

Diane said...

I will never get why it is kids can be so hateful sometimes and then grow up to be the best of people. I think he's adorable in the glasses.
And I do not envy you for those muddy clothes!

Allenspark Lodge said...

I'm not real big on violence, but he has my permission to deck anyone who touches his glasses (unless she is really cute and removes them slowly...).

Furry Bottoms said...

Aw, he is so adorable with the glasses!! And, dang, kids can be so mean. He'll get used to them fast! :)

First Kaish, now Itty Bit. Gaaah. I have nothing clever or brilliant to say here. I just wish we could move somewhere... you, me, Becky, Dana, Julie, Elaine, and our other NICE bloggy friends. Somewhere with NO T.V. (because really.. have you actually watched any of the kids shows these days? The mean, sarcastic remarks, the rudeness.. ugh). Someplace with creeks and mudpuddles, horses and bike trails, trees that are perfect for climbing and everything else that a boy could want. Wouldn't that be nice?
Hug your handsome man for me... because I'm sure he NEVER gets enough hugs... ;<) He's a lucky one to have his great big loving family, and he'll get through this. So will you... xoxox....

Unknown said...

He is adorable! : ) Seriously. SO Cute.
Kaish actually loved his glasses right from the start. He hates to be without them. He cracks me up! I hope your sweet baby only encounters nice friends from now on! Friends that dig glasses.

Unknown said...

What a stinkin cutie head! GAAH - he is adorable with those glasses!

You are a great mom. Kids can be way too cruel, so can adults. I had to wear glasses starting in 2nd grade. He looks adorable.

people are so mean to each other.

You let itty bitty know that he is one handsome lil man in those cool glasses!!!

Foursons said...

Oh no, my heart breaks right along with you that those hellion children made fun of your sweet boy. I hope their parents step in and teach them some manners.

He looks so handsome in his glasses and I'm glad you went w/your mommy's instinct and got him checked out-despite the dumb woman who wouldn't talk so you could read her lips.

As far as the punchline- I got nothing right now. Long day today and my brain is fried.

Thanks for linking up!

I can't believe it happened so soon that he would encounter some inconsiderate kid!!!! I'm so sad about that! However, I'm glad he's now wearing them! Now that my eyesight is deteriating (getting old) and I'm wearing reading glasses so often, I love being able to see clearly!

Rachel said...

He looks cute with this glasses! I hate when doctors won't believe Mommy's instinct. The same thing happened with my daughter. She has had glasses since she turned 1.

Shana Putnam said...

Ok, who is this kid and where can I find them? Seriously though, I don't get it. I always wanted glasses lol. Now that I have no choice, not so much but they are cool. That is why they make so many just for looks sake. I have an idea in mind that I hope will come to fruition but don't ask about it. I am in the thinking phase and Lord knows that takes a while. What with all the crabs, chicken bathing and steroid crazed toddler wrangling going on. I am so in love with Itty Bit's glasses and you can tell him we think he looks awesome and remind him that Superman wears glasses too.

Shana Putnam said...

You know, another rant here. SOrry. But what is it with professionals telling us that we are wrong? That we worry too much? Or plain out saying it is for attention. The whole pedi thing made me think of the time Blaze broke his arm when he was 14 months old. He fell in between our bed and his while he was playing and we were getting ready for church. He cried but was trying to use it so we went ahead and went to church but my MOm stayed in the nursery to watch him and came to get us because everytime he would try to use it he woudl jerk it up or cry out. SO that is not normal. We took him to the ER and waited forever and the triage nurse said...get this... Well I would go ahead and order the xrays to get them out of the way but I can't see that he is hurt. I think he wants attention. ***SMOKE CAME BOILING OUT OF MY EARS*** Holy cow really? He was 14 months old. So we had to wait another long time and when we finally got to see the doc he asked how the xrays went and I told him what the lady said and he more than apoligized and went to speak with her and we had them done and guess what?? His arm was broken. He went home in a cast. So on my way out the nurse asked how he was. I said well he has a cast on his arm because it is broken. Imagine that. On a side note, she didn't act so snotty till she found out we didn't have insurance at the time due to Chris changing jobs then we were treated like trash.

Aww, I think his glasses are ADORABLE!!! They really look great with his little cheeks....=) LMAO @ the mud puddle results...reminds me a little of something I saw the other day on People Of Walmart, only that wasn't mud. xD Way to stick it to that doctor, too!! Kudos, mama bear. =)

Mama4Real said...

I can't believe those kids actually did that. How horrible. I hope he recovered ok, and isn't scarred for life. I have a few choice words for those little.... *ahem*...

he is ABSOLUTELY adorable in the glasses
Boys can be soo mean

Joanne said...

Aw, he's a sweetie-pie and I love his glasses. I was rolling over their bikes heading right for the mud. That is so my boys, too. Sebastian HAS to jump in every mud puddle he sees.

Bethany said...

Oh, poor guy! I hate when kids are mean. He rocks those glasses. I love those bike pictures. They look like they're having so much fun.

Amy said...

I am so lucky to have a WONDERFUL doctor who knows that Momma is usually right. Sorry you have to be so fierce just to get your point across. No fun for you dear!

I could just hold him and cry.... no really...

Poor sweet boy! It is really hard to teach our kids that you are suppose to love everyone when they go through these kind of experiences. In the back of your head you want to tell him... "those kids are stupid and mean. Don't worry about being friends with them." But you know the "right" thing to do is tell him to love his enemies. Tough concept.

PS I love his glasses. You tell him God made him special (and he loves him very much!) and those glasses make him even more special!

Anonymous said...

awwww! I like his glasses. I hope he becomes comfortable in them and feels good about himself. I had glasses as a kid. I know what it feels like. : /

Good for you for knowing what your child needs! way to go, mama!!

Emmy said...

I cannot believe that kid did that! I am so sorry. That is just awful.

Love the bike riding pictures. And very glad I wasn't having to deal with all the dirty clothes :)

Lisa said...

Grrrrrr.....agh why are children so cruel.
I love his glasses, he is a gorgeous child!
I want glasses sooooo bad.

He & Me + 3 said...

I cannot believe that another child so little would make fun and pull his glasses off. Around here...glasses are a cool statement. seriously. The other day a little girl in Stunt Man's kindergarten class came to school with new glasses & everyone ranted and raved. I am seeing more and more little ones with glasses and the make the frames so cute now!
My oldest wanted glasses and braces a few years ago because everyone had she has them & is in the cool crowd. LOL Your little man looks fabulous in his specs. Very smart he is.

With his cap and his glasses, he's so dapper!! But stupid doctors and cruel kids... ugh. I know how ya feel. Well, I haven't encountered too many stupid doctors. But I'm sort of excited for Aidan's next lip surgery, just so we can stop hearing kids say, "I think he needs to wipe his nose." At least Aidan's oblivious right now. But not for long.

Presley family said...

Tell him that Bubba has had kids say things like that to him as well :( Now, the boys are in a very special club together.... handsome, cool, glasses wearing, big smile, awesome litte boy club!!!
BIG HUGS Momma.... I know how much that hurts your heart.

HeatherOz said...

Oh gosh! I had a hard time adjusting to my kids having glasses. They handled it just fine and I don't think they've ever been teased. I can't believe those bratty kids would act like that!

Brandi said...

Am I a craptastic blog stalker, or what? Totally missed this... but I missed Julie's whole LOI post on Friday. I have NO clue what I was doing Friday, but apparently I was not on the computer.

Well, bless his little heart... but gosh darn, the glasses are ADORABLE!!!

NaomiG said...

Ok, first off, he is SO very cute in his glasses. SO cute!

What is with pediatricians?! Geez! I hate it when people don't trust the parents.

And, how incredibly mean kids are... I hear ya on this. It hurts my heart. My oldest has a scar from a large birthmark removal on her face. I've cried more tears watching her deal with that scar, and the meaness that has come with it. Not just from other kids, but adults too. I've also been amazed by the strength I can admire and learn from in her when she deals with it though. Fills a momma's heart up with amazement every time.
