Spilled Milk

You thought I just had an awful case of Blogger’s Block, didn’t ya?

Nothing to write about.  No blogworthy adventures, no notable moments.

If only.

See, shortly after hitting PUBLISH on Gracie’s post, I knocked over a rather significant amount of liquid onto my beloved laptop.

I’m getting weepy even writing about it.

coffee on laptop

And I totally don’t buy the whole not worth crying over spilled milk.  Cuz I am still traumatized.

So I can’t type a period, an M, or use the delete key.  Which, ya know, is kinda important in trying to leave comments or send emails.

I’ve been surviving by sneaking moments on Mr. Daddy’s computer (which is like driving someone else’s car – nothing is ever where it should be), or on my ancient older-than-me computer that secretly plots my demise.

You think I’m kidding?

The Computer-Guru-Friend (everyone should have one!) who looked at this ancient beast’s innards, proclaimed that a metal thingamajig was dangerously bulging.  I asked breathlessly if it would shoot off like a bullet?

Computer-Guru-Friend gravely proclaimed that it probably would and most likely in my sleep.

The result of all this bellyaching?  I am desperately behind on reading your blogs (so sorry!) and desperately trying to back up all precious photos and videos!

I mean, what if we had missed out on reminiscing over these gems someday?

Aww, for reals… I would be heartbroken to lose this one.

And as I frantically went through my photo folders, I realized that Mr. Daddy was quite a sneaky guy.  There were approximately 241 pictures of my behind.  I mean, I’m trying to take pictures of my pointe shoes to sell on eBay and the dude burns up my memory card with this?  Oy

(Very ballet-like, no?  And you’re welcome for not enlarging that photo)

As I looked for any retribution photos, I stumbled across this one.  Let’s all take a moment to mourn the passing of Itty Bit’s toddlerhood.

If you made it to the end of my randomness, let me share the awesome news with you:  a sweet reader left a comment on Gracie’s birthday post.  She offered to match the donations to the Carenet Crisis Pregnancy Center in Gracie’s name.  Not only that, she matched the VIEW count, not just the comments.  How generous is that?! (And because I don’t want to put her on the spot, please go back to those comments to see who it is – and go give her a giant bloggy hug too!  Thank you my friend :)

Thank you to all of you who stopped by and wished Gracie a Happy Birthday, and who shared names of your own loved ones to honor.  You are such a blessing!

Now, any ideas how to fix a drowned laptop???

Oh dear I'm so sorry, nothing could be worse than a soggy laptop...Wishing you the best!!

Take your laptop apart and clean it using rubbing alcohol and cutips! That is what we did when Blaze sprayed Kaboom cleaner directly into the main board in the tv. Then let it dry in the air and it should work. You have to get any stickiness off. Just be very gentle. can't hurt to try! I was wondering where you were. I was getting worried. I love the family pic of you guys and I will mourn with you if you mourn with me. What a great gift from your reader too. Awesome.

I would suggest a shotgun. Just a thought... ;)

Oh girl! So sorry about the laptop. I was gonna say the same thing as Shana... I spilled coffee on mine not long ago. I pulled off the keys where the most liquid spilled and got out the rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. Just let it dry out good and it *should* come back. I had a key that was a little stubborn, but several days later it mysteriously started working again. GOOD LUCK! :)

i did that with my macbook...only with cheese dip. holy geez. i popped off my arrow keys to clean out underneath, and have never been able to get them back on. i think i bent something. eh well...maybe mr. daddy would have mercy and buy his loving, beautiful and doting wife a new one! :)

I would've cried... and cried... and hoped that my tears would magically bring the laptop back to life.

Good luck --hope the trick with the Q-tips and alcohol might work.

I understand. About 4 weeks ago I thought "Ya know, I should back this puppy up." And I did. Well, some of the work related stuff, anyway. Didn't get around to the pictures. About 3 weeks ago...

I still can't talk about it.

wish I could tell ya how to fix a drowned laptop, but I kinda just gave mine up and bought a new one....UGH!!! Sorry, and I totally agree that not crying over spilled milk thing - total and complete idiot made that saying up.

Cute bum!!
Ruined laptop!?! Oh, that is HARD!

Yes, the whole not crying over spilled milk sentiment definitely became obsolete with the invention of the computer keyboard. What a sweet family portrait!

I had a laptop stolen and I was very hurt. I can relate. How about insurance? Will it cover it?

I would have cried too. And my hubs is good at sneaking rear pictures too- men!

Ugh! I hate it when that happens. Glad you were able to get to your photos though. You would have hated to lose those precious memories.
Keep up the God work.

The alcohol idea sounds good to me!

*Knock on wood* This has yet to be one of my problems but at least I know when it is my time you will be the expert! ;-)

Cracking up over Mr. Daddy's captures!

I totally believe you about crying over spilled milk. If I spilled milk on my laptop, I would go ballistic.

By the way, I love those jeans. I love jeans with those flap pockets on the back. Probably because I don't have a butt and those flaps give the illusion that I DO have a butt. So where did you get them? :)

what you talking about
you have a lovely and tiny behind
love the pictures

Another thing... I know that if you drown your cell phone or some small electronic hand-held device, you can put it in a bowl of dry rice and its supposed to zap the moisture out of the thing. I wonder if the same would work for a laptop... but I would think rice would get under the keys on the keyboard-- not sure.

Oh no! Yes, back up, back up, back up! You don't want to lose those pictures!

I have a desk in our kitchen area that has my computer. The hardrive is on an elevated part of it and my backup external drive is on a shelf along the wall. So, WHEN my kids have spilled water, etc. my harddrives are not affected. Gotta keep that technology safe...its doesn't swim well.

Dina @ 4 Lettre Words said..., so sorry! I can't even imagine my reaction. It's too scary...

My laptop crashed this fall and a friend took it home for a couple months and worked on it in his spare time. I got it back on Christmas Eve - he handed me the laptop case with a red bow on it. Very cute. Anyway, after not having my laptop for four months the thing I missed the most was my pictures. Most of mine are backed up on Shutterfly but not all of them. I now have an external hard drive. Hope your laptop responds to treatment

oh no! BUMMER about the laptop!! It's been days, but I'm finally sitting down and catching up with a cup of coffee! Oh, and I lost your email address, so I haven't been able to tell you, but the calendar we talked about is in the mail (to my house...) so maybe you can email me your address and I'll send it on when it gets here? :)
